Key concepts
News: News is information about current events. This may be
provided through many different media: word of mouth, printing, postal systems,
broadcasting, electronic communication, or through the testimony of observers
and witnesses to events. Common topics for news reports include war,
government, politics, education, health, the environment, economy, business,
fashion, and entertainment.
Journalism: Journalism refers to the
production and distribution of reports on recent events. The word journalism
applies to the occupation, as well as citizen journalist using methods of
gathering information and using literary techniques. Journalistic media include
print, television, radio, internet, and, in the past, newsreels.
Media: Media is communication outlets or tools used to store
and deliver information or data. It is associated with the mass media
communication business such as print media, the press, photography,
advertising, cinema, broadcasting and publishing.
Data: Data, information and knowledge are often used
interchangeably; however data becomes information when it is viewed in context
or in post-analysis. While the concept of data is commonly associated with
scientific research, data is collected by a huge range of organizations and
institutions, including business.
Social influence:
Social influence occurs when a person’s emotions, opinions or behaviors
are affected by others intentionally or unintentionally. Social influence takes
many forms and can be seen in conformity, socialization, peer pressure,
obedience, leadership, persuasion, sales and marketing.
